Yost And 3 Other State Ags File Lawsuit

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost Sues Federal Government Over Student Loan Forgiveness

Yost and 3 Other State AGs File Lawsuit

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has joined his counterparts in Alabama, Georgia and Iowa to file a lawsuit against the federal government over President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan.

AGs Argue Plan is Unlawful and Unfair

The lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, argues that Biden's plan is unlawful and unfair. The AGs argue that the plan was not authorized by Congress and that it will cost taxpayers billions of dollars.

They also argue that the plan is unfair to those who have already paid off their student loans or who have chosen not to attend college because of the cost.

Biden's Plan to Forgive $10,000 in Student Loan Debt

Biden announced his plan to forgive $10,000 in student loan debt for borrowers who earn less than $125,000 per year in August 2022. The plan also includes a provision that would forgive up to $20,000 in student loan debt for borrowers who received Pell Grants.

The plan has been met with mixed reactions. Some argue that it is a necessary step to help reduce the burden of student loan debt, while others argue that it is unfair to taxpayers and that it will not do enough to address the underlying problem of the high cost of college.

Lawsuit Likely to Face Long Legal Battle

The lawsuit is likely to face a long legal battle. The Biden administration has defended the plan, arguing that it is legal and that it will help millions of Americans.

However, the AGs who have filed the lawsuit are likely to argue that the plan is unconstitutional and that it will harm taxpayers.
